video blog on scope probes seriously needed
« on: July 29, 2012, 01:49:05 pm »
I would like to see a 1 hour Dave blog on just oscilloscope probes.

There is a lot of information in

http://www.slack.com/TE/TekConcepts/TekProbeCircuits.pdf

It is a bit dated, and I am not sure how the current high bandwidth passive probes are designed, but this could be covered in the blog.

A comparison of several probes, ranging from cheap chinese $9 60mhz passive probes, decent 300mhz passive probes, active probes, and maybe differential probes.  Compare the same signal (fast pulse and high speed pure sine) using these different probes.  Compare the signal to what you get directly into 50 ohm cable and 50 ohm termination.  Detail situations where you should use each.
