121GW Auto Power Off

I have had a 121GW for quite a while now. It's great for me apart from the battery life. I seem to have replaced the batteries several times in just a few months. I finally did a bit of investigation and found that in use the 121GW takes about 10mA, and when switched off at the switch it takes 0mA. When auto powered down it takes 10mA, so the same as being on. Surely this isn't correct? It explains the sets of batteries I have put in it too. Is there a fault with this meter/

There's a recent thread about annoying multimeter APO behavior (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/seek-multimeter-that-not-eat-batteries-or-turn-off/), but this has got them all beat!

In all seriousness though - it has to be a fault - right?  Hopefully someone else with a 121GW can do a comparison test and post the results.  Also wouldn't hurt to drop Dave a DM or  email.  He's done a couple of post-mortem videos on an RMA'ed BM786 (and BM235?). I'd certainly be interested in a vid on whats going on with your 121GW.

Does that persist for a long time or is it just for a few minutes?  I'd set it up to measure its current, let it APO and then watch it for two hours.  If it still draws 10mA after that I'd say it was an issue.
A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

I'm pretty sure it does persist for a long time as sets of batteries are being flattened in just a few days with the meter off.

I have tried APO with the Sd card removed, and it is the same. Around 10mA when on and after APO has turned the meter off still around 10mA.

I own one of the early adopters 121GW. FW is 2.05.
It consumes 5.5mA @ 6V ON, below 100µA when OFF.
Max. consumption is about 28mA, when the beeper is activated.
In APO state, it consumes 1.2mA only. 
The battery runs very long.
