Replacing AC fan in old test equipment
« on: February 20, 2013, 03:41:51 am »
I just picked up a cool vintage (circa 1985) electronic load off ebay (Kikusui brand), and am looking to replace its cooling fan. The original is Minebea 2415PS-10W-B30 100VAC fan. The company seems to now be a part of NMB, but the 100VAC version is nowhere to be found in stock. Their 115VAC version though is easily obtainable. Hence is my question- what happens when you run a 115VAC rated fan off 100VAC? The load powers it off a separate winding on the mains transformer. I realize I could feed it off mains, but would rather not mess with the original wiring.

Load teardown pictures are coming up in a separate thread;)

This Orion with similar specs shows to operate from 80-130. It might do the trick for you.

I'm not sure about the NMB voltage operating range.

It will work fine, slightly lower airflow but you will not notice it. Will run a little cooler in the fan motor and have a longer life. Just make sure you get a ball bearing fan and not a sleeve bearing one.
