To my surprised that Fluke told me that they can't service the 116 DMM. The unit was under warranty and they told me to send it in for them to destroy and they sent me a new one. If it's out of warranty then you just have to buy a new one.
Service by replacement makes economic sense if your average total cost of servicing it is more than the total cost of production in Malaysia or wherever they are made. They do list replacement parts and provide calibration procedures if you or a third party want to service it, so they aren't totally condemning them to disposability. For example, the LCD is p/n 2509955 and you can pick it up for about $46.
What happened to yours? I had to send my first one back because all the letters were falling off the face.
I don't know what the guy did to the meter. It seems that the jacks are no longer connected to the internal of the meter. The meter acts like you don't connect anything to it. All the switches work fine.
