BM235 multimeter with "paper white display"?
« on: March 18, 2017, 07:40:54 am »
I noticed that Brymen describes the BM230 series as having a "paper white" LCD, and shows some very nice-looking pictures in their product flyer: http://www.brymen.com/cata230/BM230_Catalog.pdf

Has anybody seen these out in the wild? Is this a revised model, or just shameless photoshopping?

Edit : Fixed model number in the thread title - duh...

Ah, right -- the unboxing video shows both, the nice paper-white display pictured on the cardboard box and the real LCD inside. Thanks!

Too bad, an improved display would clearly have tipped the scale towards the BM235 for me. I'll keep pondering a bit further then...

To be fair, if you turn on the backlight the display does look exactly like the picture. The backlight uses a clean white LED with high contrast between the white background and the black digits.

A bit of an exaggeration, but it's a pretty even white backlight.
All BM235's use the same LCD and backlight.

Thanks, all!

I am dithering between the BM235 and the BM257s mainly. The BM257s seems to come with yellow display illumination, and based on Ian's photo the BM235 does have an advantage in display visibility. The BM257s has slightly better accuracy, fast bargraph display, and of course the optional USB interface. The only downside I could find is that it does not have the BM235's 3V range for diode testing; no LED testing with this one...

The price difference is smaller than I had thought. 109€ for the BM257s, vs. 95€ for the BM235 (incl. VAT and shipping) here, for example: https://www.welectron.com/Brymen-BM257s-Multimeter_1

Decisions, decisions...  ::)

Thank you. The BM257 display looks nice enough! (And as the backlight stays on longer than its big brother's, one could argue that integrated over 30 seconds, readability is better on the '257 ;))

I understand that the BM235 backlight remains on for up to 10 minutes, right? When working in a dim environment away from the bench, that might be an advantage. I tend to have not enough hands to hold the multimeter and test tips anyway, hence don't want to keep toggling the light back on...

Why does the BM869s have a nice case and where can I get one?  :o

Apparently your meter came with a case, but when I bought mine there was no case provided. That seems to be something important to know when buying one.

I would really like to know how to get a case as an aftermarket accessory.

(Edit: It appears that Brymen does not sell cases separately, so I will have to find a generic case instead.)
