Rigol MSO5104
« on: February 12, 2025, 12:09:49 pm »
HI, was looking at this scope specs

They says 8Gs/s.   This data is true ? What are then they needed for ?
Also they say 100 Mpts (likely per channel) . this also seems much more than needed, but good.

Any general feedback on this instrument, compared to similar more expensive stuff as tektronix ?
Thanks

Yes, if you only use one channel.
With 4 channels it is 2 GSa/s and 25 Mpts per channel.
That is good.

Sample rate
1 channel with 8 GSa/s
2 channel with each 4 GSa/s
4 channel with each 2 GSa/s

Memory depth (standard)
1 channel with 100 Mpts
2 channel with each 50 Mpts
4 channel with each 25 Mpts

So many threads with so much information.  For a while you couldn't swing a cat on eevblog without hitting an MSO5000 post.

I bought my 5104 from telonic in the black friday sale - the main reason being I needed something that had a logic analyser that I can trigger on whilst also monitoring multiple voltages.
It came with a free bundled rigol LA probe which is a few hundred on its own - I know theres an aftermarket one but from memory its much more limited in its ranges.
Also when buying it you could get a big discount on a licences pack for the 2 arbitrary waveform generators and some other bits I had an interest in.

I was looking at the siglent and rigol 12bit scopes but I didnt need that functionality and once I added a LA probe set it was much more expensive. I also have the option in the future to extend the scope if the need arises.

Been very happy with how its performed.
