8664 to 8665B upgrade done
« on: January 27, 2021, 02:52:13 am »
And I have a result of +0

Hardware needed:
-ROM 8665B
-Added 0-3 and 3-6 RF switch (note 8664A ROM will flip it to the 3 to 6GHz, output OFF)
-MWEXT 8665B
-Bypass rev protection or find the small 8665B rev power protection of the 6GHz (may loose 3dB)
-U32 IO board matching the attenuator

Calibration steps:
-MW Loop adj
-HF driver adjust
-Run the Recal GPIB software
-Recal Special 171
-Clear memory repeat and fix errors until Result +0

Next upgrade, Pulse option... and add the Circulator (Isolator for Pulse option)

Rewrite my Calibration code to use the power meter instead of just calculate on the inner tables...

Hi tchiwam,

Nice work on the 8664 to 8665B conversion.

I have a 8665B with early firmware.  It came from Spokane, WA via eBay.  I've been told HP developed the 8643, 8644, 8645, 8664 and 8665 instrument line there.  My instrument is probably and early production unit used in HP's engineering.  I also have a broken 8664B with Ver 4.2.2 firmware.  I copied the four EPROMs on the controller board in multiple fill formats (S Records, HEX, and Bin) with an EQ-4X programming tool.

I want to update the firmware in the 8665B to Ver 4.2.2 so I got four 27C010 EPROMs and loaded my Bin files into them.  The programming worked but the 8665B thinks it is a 8664B and doesn't know about its doubler board (MW EXT).  https://www.eevblog.com/forum/Smileys/default/embarrassed.gif

I'm hoping someone has copied the controller board EPOMS from a 8665B with Ver 4.2.2 firmware, and is willing to post them.   Has anyone haked Ver 4.2.2 firmware and willing describe the process?

Regards,

Hi,

In my previous post I claimed I have an Agilent 8664B signal generator.  I fact the there is only a 8664A, which is what I have.  I assumed any of these instruments with Version 4.2.2 firmware is a B version.  This was my mistake.  I also posted the wrong part type for the EPROMs.  They are 27C1024.  See the attached picture.

Please accept my apologies,
