This has been linked to before.  I have a SPD3303X-E and have tried but been unable to reproduce anything like this, I also think (not sure) that others have tried and failed to reproduce this 'issue' leading to speculation that it was a 1-off bad unit.

I bought my SPD3303X-E after watching Dave's teardown - the internals are excellent, especially the huge toroid transformer.

I am VERY happy with my SPD3303X-E power supply; the latest firmware shows the set volts/amps in small font with the measured volts/amps in large font and I'm impressed with the accuracy of the measured outputs.
If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer
