6 channel scope on the cheap side
« on: June 06, 2023, 06:07:05 pm »
Is there any scope with 6 analog channels not so expensive ? I already know there are several top line scopes with 6 and 8 channels. But these are too expensive!
I would need all channles on the same scope in real time, and not, I cannot use digital channels. I do not care if it is desktop or PC based.

I remember of some old scope from Tek the TLS216, 16 channels,  that can still be found on eBay, but it had many limitations.

Does anyone knows about any scope with these characteristics ?

What bandwidth ?
Picoscope do 8 channels at 20MHz for under £2K

Yokogawa made a number of 8-channel scopes, some of the older ones could be had pretty reasonably at this point.  Make sure you know what you're getting, some of them have modular inputs and may not have all of the channels actually installed.  These also can be isolated inputs, which is pretty extraordinary, but I have yet to see one for sale with all 8 isolated inputs installed.

Otherwise, Picoscope is probably the way to go if you can't afford a Tek MSO68B-series.
A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

Yokogawa DL708 and DL716 are such multi-channel beasts but the bandwidth is a few MHz at most. These have a wide variety of acquisition modules though like isolated 12 bit input modules. Very handy to measure across current shunts somewhere in a circuit.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

We have the 16-channel scope from them, a heavy weight champion.. ;)
We´ve used it for a static transfer switch to test - 3-phase source 1, 3-phase source 2, currents source 1 and 2, finally 2 trigger signals from the control electronic, so only 2 channels were left.
All channel inputs are modular slot-in, the 6 channels for the voltages have the high-voltage isolated modules.
