Title: AC Insulation Tester
Post by: Propaganda on February 19, 2021, 06:14:02 pm
I am looking for a test device that outputs 500VAC/50Hz and performs a impedance measurement on the device under test(>10MOhm). Anything off the shelf that can perform this type of measurement?

Why AC?

The AC ones are usually known as Hipot testers rather than insulation testers.

Edit: Actually, that's not what you seem to be describing.

Most of the devices that are designed for insulation testing are DC only. Any reason why you would want it to do AC? I don't think there are any/many standards that require it?

I can't really go into specifics of the application, but my standard I'm trying to test to is 500VAC/50Hz.

I decided that using a hipot tester(GPT-9801) was probably as good as I was going to get and I can obviously relate the current output measurement to impedance...

Yes, it would be a high pot or a machinery tester that would give you 'AC Insulation Resistance'. All the standards that I work to though always express it as a leakage current.

The only one I have found different is BS7671, which is based around our LV Installations (less than 1000V) where they use impedance for line loop and earth measurements.

HVI supplies AC dielectric test sets. the PFT-103CM outputs up to 10 kV AC and displays leakage current, up to 300 mA.
