Hi all, Just picked up some mmwave instruments from a local company that was excessing some inventory. E8257D 40 gig analong signal generator and E4446A 44 gig analyzer. E4446A has suspect input attenuators. Just waiting for some 2.4mm to SMA adapters so I can do some insertion loss tests before going further. E8257D has a self test error: 707. This corresponds to the sweep phase detector (instrument has 007 ramp sweep option). This is traceable to the A6 Frac-N board. While block diagrams are available, wondering if anyone has an Agilent CLIP (component level information packet) that covers this board. The A6 Frac-N has several part #s, E8251- 60328 / 69328 / 60044 / 69044 and is used in a few Agilent synthesizers: E8257D E8663B E8663D E8257C E8247C E8257N Would be helpful if there was component level type info out there. I haven't pulled this board yet but I know package marking can be mysterious and a CLIP would be extremely useful. Plus, planning on doing some signal path style repair vids on these instruments, so stay tuned for that! Cheers, Kevin |

Confirmed that issue is with sweep PLL, likely the phase detector portion of that circuit. Instrument operates just fine in CW mode, but as soon as sweep modulation is enabled, the Sweep PLL throws an unlock error. This is definitely in the A6 frac-N. Just pulled the board tonight and removed pcb from shielding sandwich. Lots of nice mixed signal engineering going on here. Now to figure out where the problem is :D High res pictures: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1bfuvlu2nFoTb8uSpvdKbUk0NGnOv90ml?usp=sharing |

Not that this will will help you but if what this agilent document said is correct, CLIP was shipped with the original CD rom https://keysight-docs.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/keysight-pdfs/E8241A/PSG+Series+Configuration+Guide.pdf The literature pn is E8251-90032 And the CLIP cdrom is E8251-90033 Probably they are not where to be found on the web..... |
