Gould Datasys 700/800/900 series
« on: September 14, 2017, 01:56:26 pm »
Hello,

I was wondering that somebody could help me with a service manaul for the Gould Datasys 700/800/900 series ?
I love this scopes and have several of them : two 770 syncroscopes, a 840 and a 944.
Problem are the varta bateries who leak in the years... They destroy the copper lanes around it.
i have only one good cpu board anymore at the moment ( they are all the same except the software in the 4 eproms).
I have tried to repair the boards, but thats very difficult, there are 4 layers of tracks and not easy to follow the conections.
It would be a great help if i had the schematics. Maybe the 6000 and 7000 series has the same cpu board, i dont know.
Im been searching for a long time on the net for this manuals but could not find them. Hopeless....
The 944 has also other problems ( i think it was the last scope from Gould Datasys).
The user manual for the 840 i have, but the only info here is to reset the scope ( powerup withe holdall button pressed until beep).
I even found accidently the service menu: press 4 times on the 1 button. you can do many test here, but it doesnt of course solve a hardware problem.
So if anyone can make me happy....
I would pay for the manuals if needed . ( for digitalising them...)

Hi,
sorry for resurrecting a very old thread, but did you ever find these service manuals? I just acquired a 940 with one dead channel and intend starting a repair/restoration in the near future.

Hello McBryce,

i have not found the service manuals....
a litlle time after placing this ad, i had contact with a manual shop from the UK. In their extensive list was a service manual for the 900 series.
very happy, but he did not find the manual....
i even contacted former employees from Gould but nobody seems to have it.
It looks like 700/800/900 series use the same proc board with different software, but even the 700 or 800 i couldnt find.
i have the 400 manual, but it is very different. The same for the 4074.
From time to time i keep searching, but it seems hopeless !
If you ever find the service manual from the 700/800/900 series let me know please.

Regards,

Willy

Well since this morning I've already had a small success. The person who gave me the scope has found the original (real dead tree version) User Manual (not service manual and no schematics in it). However, it's the German version. If anything in this is of interest to you (and you understand German), then I can look at having it scanned somehow.

Yes, always interested in it. German is no problem. Will pay the cost for scanning.
If you are interested in the 800 user manual in English, let me know.
Btw, you can swap the input ampliefiers and look that the problem stays or moves also, so you know the board is defective.

Cool, thanks for the tip. I've no use for the 800 manual, as I only have a 900. I'll investigate scanning options once I've fixed the scope. It's 230 double-sided pages and they're a bit bent and creased, so I've no idea how this can be done without a lot of manual page laying.
