Agilent releasing a new scope on 13 November
« on: October 30, 2012, 11:36:25 pm »
I just saw @ FB Agilent will be unveiling a new scope on 13 November. Anybody have an idea if it will be for the pro or hobby market ?
I am currently looking for a new Agilent MSO2024A but if a new scoop comes out for the hobby market (like the 2000 series) i will wait .
If something betters comes out just after i bought an older model i will be maaad.

My guess, perhaps a replacement for their rigol re-badged models? Agilent might be concerned about Rigol's offerings and are trying to compete.

At the moment it's Schrodinger's Cat.
It can be thought of as both alive and dead.

"Agilent Announces New Quantum Oscilloscope"

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. -- Agilent Technologies today announced a new "quantum leap" in oscilloscopes. The Agilent QSO882K83-4GS-III is the first oscilloscope on the market with the capability of measuring in the quantum domain. The new oscilloscope is capable of showing the expected result from the circuit under test, as well as infinitely many other unexpected, and unlikely results. The new QuantiiVision ASIC that Agilent developed in their world leading semiconductor headquarters allows for up to 16 levels of intensity and over 10 waveforms per second, showing even the finest of quantum states.

"This really lets the cat out of the bag", said Agilent CEO William P Sullivan. "Of course, Agilent does not endorse animal cruelty... but by bringing [a new dimension] electronics engineers ... asked for, we've [revolutionised] the market."

A qu-bit port is also available as a factory-installed option, allowing the oscilloscope to measure quantum digital states. The new quantum holograph 3D display (glasses not included) allows all the family to enjoy 3D quantum technology. It may even cure cancer**. In addition, the new Agilent QSO882K83-4GS-III is lightweight and portable at just 0.02 solar masses, and is available with a battery option, giving 500 hours standby time and 6 minutes usage time.

The QSO882K83-4GS-III base model starts from just 8.99e+13 USD. Please contact your local Agilent sales representative for more information about the QSO882K83-4GS-III. For a limited time only, a FREE Agilent DT830B will be included with every QSO882K83-4GS-III.

** QSO882K83-4GS-III has no cancer curing capability though at least 1 USD might go to support some charity somewhere. Void in Arkansas, Nevada and New York State.

Tektronix news release:

In an Answer to Agilents new Quantum scope Tektronix has completely re-evaluated the modern scope and re-engineered it from the ground up. The new scope is a totally reworked machine designed for serviceability and simplicity. A u-bent aluminum chassis hold a single tube oscillator and single tube input amplifier driving a high resolution 'pixel-less' ( this is even better than retina displays as the phosophor is continuous in nature) The input connectors have been simplified and standardized to 4mm binding post type banana jacks eliminating costly shielded cables or probes. Sampling speed is 400.000km/s with a 2 inch memory depth (2 inch usable are round CRT ). Sweepspeeds are continuously adjustable using a single potentiometer as we found a detented timebase to be too restrictive. The outer shell is hammerstrike blue and it comes with a certified NOS power cable.

Scope accessorie include velours gloves to replace tubes should they break and rosewood pucks to augment acoustical dampening.

I just hope Agilent finally give us the DC bandwidth option we've been asking for on the new scopes, especially the QSO882K83-4GS-III. The current offerings of 70 MHz and 100 MHz are too much for the average hobbyist -- we're paying for bandwidth we'll never use.

Well I spoke with a representative for Agilent today. Even though I haven't been told not to disclose anything, I want to be careful, since Agilent clearly wants to wait until the 13th of November. Yet I think I can tell already that it's a series alike the 2000X and 3000X series, yet another step up the ladder from 2000X and 3000X. Think USB 2.0 decode capability (yes it has the bandwith), think optional dual wavegen alike the 33522, and some more stuff.

From what I heard (if correct), too expensive, 4000 series
An 7000 mechanical design, touchscreen with 2000/3000 internals width some small extra features.

In other words no need for buyer's remorse since we are unlikely to afford one. The 3000's are at the top end of hobbyist affordability already.
