All-Sun Multimeters
« on: February 27, 2020, 03:34:43 am »
Hadn't seen this brand before, apparently an OEM of meters and portable scopes:

A couple of Bluetooth models.

The EM6000 and EM6180 have been on my list for 2 years.
The 6000 was the best one, being true RMS and UL listed CAT III 600V with 1000V fuses.
AC volt bandwidth is poor at 400Hz.

I've purchased a pair of re-branded em390's over ten years ago they still work great and behave predictable.
Although I had to replace the v-ref trimpot on both...

Pro: clear lcd, long battery life, manual range (single action switch on and selecting the proper range, great for quick troubleshooting),
price (paid 4 euro each) unfused 10A range.

Con: no true RMS, no AC milivolts, uses 9V battery, unfused 10A range.

Is this who you plan to start selling?   Honestly, I am not sure if UEI is the better of the two brands or not.    A few pictures inside one...
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/cheap-multimeters-sub-$20-allosun-em420a-and-bside-adm01/msg928297/#msg928297

I ran a couple of their automotive meters.   The EM135 was the better of the two.   It was very susceptible to RF and  I noticed they did not follow the manufacture's recommendations for an IC they used.   I made a few small changes which greatly improved the performance.

Not a test I normally run with the handhelds but with these automotive meters, I expect them to handle some splatter.

Not sure how the 121 would like this....

The review, mostly looking at the automotive specific features:

I have three (older model) EM6000s and only one works - and that one had to be modified to be usable (shitty, awful input jacks). Wouldn't buy any of their meters again.

As you well know some of Greenlee meters are rebranded Brymen.

Poster says Greenlee DM-65 is an All Sun.

I found this page from Amazon.

Reading all the google results, it looks like the company is a government sponsored company.  I don't know the different between a private company from a state sponsored company.  Does it mean they have more money and less regulation to make the meters?

Yes i saw that and thought it sounded strange.
Anyone know the details of this?

They also mention that they have a R&D department in Taiwan.
Do you think their products will be good if they have lots of cash throw from the government?

The Greenlee DM65 internals shown by the OP on the thread below seem quite alright:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/chinese-multimeter/

Obviously that, as @joeqsmith has shown time and again, looks can be deceiving.

The PCB inside the DM-65 looks much much better than the PCB from a cheap AA charger I tried to fix for my buddy.
There are fingerprints all over the PCB imprinted on the green paint.  The guy in the sweatshop probably did not wait for the paint to dry before he put the charger together.

The company is not sponsored by the state as such. Instead, it has been awarded the high-tech label which gives it more weight in influencing state policies to promote future economic development.
The Fujian province has important commercial links with Taiwan, being only 180 km away and having a common dialect (southern Min).

I think All-Sun and Brymen maybe the same company.

Both were founded in 1993, and they are closed to each other.

The Greenlee made by All-Sun I just bought looks exactly like a Brymen.  They have different specs but look exactly the same.  The DM-45 and DM-65 are cheaper.  The DM-20x, 50x, and 80x are expensive.

I don't see any Brymen DMMs that look like All-Sun.  Which one are you referring to?

Apart from being a different shape, different colour, different buttons, and different markings, and being of entirely unrelated internal design, yes, looks just like a Brymen!

No, they're not the same company or comparable meters.

Yes, different specs.  The All-Sun even has a USB port in the back.  But these 3 look the same.  Same sharp.  Same dial and switches.
They have to be made by the same company.

The dial is similar. The buttons are not the same, the shape is only superficially the same, the fonts and style of markings are completely different.

They are not the same company, and the meters are not in the same class. The Greenlee DM-830A is a Brymen meter (BM829s - and at a significant markup) - but that does not make it an All-Sun meter, or the DM-45 a Brymen..

FDA? As far as I know, that is Food and Drug Administration.  Don't think they would have anything to do with mulitmeters. :palm:
