Title: Alternative soldering pencil for a Goot RX-802AS station
Post by: guswin95 on April 28, 2023, 07:37:28 pm
Hello all,

I recently picked up a base station only of the Goot RX-802AS 80W soldering station. Its a 120V version.

Unfortunately, it appears quite difficult to find parts in the US. Looking for an inexpensive way to utilize this base.

The new set is about $250 without tips; which are about $25-30 each. I was wondering if it would take a Weller of Hakko pencil with easier and more inexpensive tips to make this economical to use. Being the upper limit a new station cost ($250).

Comments online appear to be very favorably as the quality of this station and many European and South American users seem to like it.

Any ideas are welcomed. Thanks

It is a good station, I liked mine, gave it away to a friend now that I have switched to Metcal.

I think it is hard to source part anywhere in the world unless you are in Japan. I had to import the ultrafine tips and hot tweezers from amazon JP. Perhaps you can see if amazon JP ships to where you are, and if the price of the parts are reasonable.

The Goot tips uses 4 pins + a earth connection, quite unconventional I'd say. I don't think it will be very easy to have it work with other tips. The station also seem quite sensitive to tip profiles, e.g. the way to detect idle and enter sleep is literally sensing the heat loss at the tip, if the heat loss is minimal (not soldering), it decides to go into sleep.
