AM Scope for PCB rework, looking for advice/comments
« on: May 10, 2018, 10:03:13 pm »
This one is advertised as trinocular, however I can't actually see the 3rd port

https://www.ebay.com/itm/AmScope-WF10x-20-Trinocular-Boom-Stereo-Microscope-Fluorescent-Light/222965951497?hash=item33e9ce6c09:g:3IcAAOSwJpda40ZH

This one has 5x, 10x, 15x and 30x, and definitly has the camera port.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/AmScope-5X-10X-15X-30X-Trinocular-Stereo-Microscope-with-Single-Arm-Boom-Stand/140927801180?epid=24012033458&hash=item20cff3975c:g:QgQAAOSwrklVaOba

Or perhaps this one with the ring light
https://www.ebay.com/itm/AmScope-5X-10X-15X-30X-Boom-Stand-Trinocular-Stereo-Microscope-Fluo-Light/400429191304?epid=1437317207&hash=item5d3b709088:g:L1oAAOSwl8NVaOcA

Or, is there something better for the same price point?

I don't need the camera now, but will likely get one in the future, not sure on camera source and compatibility?

The first one is definitely not.  You can tell by the model number: SW-3B24X-FRL

Getting the trinoc now, if you plan on adding a camera is a good idea.  Otherwise you can aways get a binoc and then get an eyepiece camera later.

If you can swing it, a zoom 7X-45X is really nice over the fixed:

But, you're gonna wanna add a .5X barlow to that as well for another $20-$30.

I agree that a continuous zoom is the way to go. With different component sizes and regions of interest you don't want to be locked into fixed fields of view.

Ordered the zoom version in your link, I ordered the Barlow lens from another source, when I enquired about adding the Barlow to the original order they quoted me an additional $100 which is odd because they advertise the lens for $49, I enquired as to if the lens they would supply was different and they replied no. So I ordered from another vendor for $19.

Looking forward to getting it, my triple combination of glasses, + goggles + loop is just not cutting it any more;-)

Thanks for your suggestions.

I'm going to start looking for a bargain camera.

Congrats, its a great scope.  Don't know why they would charge that much extra for the barlow.  :-//
