Amprobe AM-520 Oddity
« on: December 19, 2014, 02:35:41 pm »
Hi,

My first post here so if this is the wrong sub forum then I apologize but as its regarding test equipment I thought it may go here.

This week I bought a couple of Amprobe AM 520's both came from two different suppliers, both are new and both appear to work as they should, there is one thing odd with both of them, they have this strange hand written initialing on the meter stand and inside the battery case, I have supplied a picture to show the marking on one meter stand.

I have made inquiries with the suppliers and no one seems to know what they are, the only markings like these I have seen before are those put there by owners, unless its normal practice to let someone loose with a marker pen in the factory !

Does anyone have an idea what these are or has anyone seen something similar EG: inspection marks, I am a little perplexed about this as it looks a bit well,  errr naff  :-(

Do they both say CAL?
Might be something they do after the unit has be calibrated.

Thanks for replying,

The lettering is UL, its hand written, something I don't expect an new gear, I wondered if they where pre owned and returned but the chances of someone with initials UL returning two of these back to two separate suppliers has to be impossible so that leaves something Amprobe has done, its on the stand, the battery compartment and taking a peek inside, its on the rear case housing, so its in three places, very odd.
