Hello everyone. My name is Dave from the UK and I would apreciate some help with a schematic for an Amprobe 5 XP-A multimeter as I have managed to kill it with a spark from a lawnmower magneto. The display just reads "OL" for all functions except NCV. I have contacted the manufacturers with no luck. Any help or pointers would be most welcome.
Cheers Dave

It is unlikely you will find a schematic.
Post clear focused pictures of both sides of the pcb. Perhaps one of the input protection components may be damaged. Once we see the pictures, we can make suggestions on what to test.

Thank you retiredcaps for your prompt reply. I will do as you suggest. :)

I doubt you would find too many meters that would survive a mag or secondary of a microwave oven transformer. You may want to consider getting a free one from Harbor Freight for these what if sort of tests.
I've managed to damage my share of meters. Normally what I see with the better meters is a few transistors may short. However the meters do not read OL like yours. Instead they read low values. On the meters that are not so robust, they will do what you describe. There is normally not enough protection circuitry to protect the control IC. Sadly, they go to the recycle bin after this.
With a mag, hard to say. Something may have opened up but my guess is you are looking at a lot of wasted time and in the end a new meter.
