I think it's the chinesium plating, it oxides and makes crappy contact. The slit makes a sharp edge that chews up banana plugs I find. These pics of "gold" banana jacks are just sleeves. Probably plated steel. A rich man would find Mill-max or something that ends up costing more than the DMM. The AN8008 rotary switch is still shit, it's always oxidizing and not reliable. |

a lot of those are gold plated copper, but they are still solder-mount. you need to use gold plated leads too, if you dont, galvanic corrosion will get you - same goes for using gold leads in tin-plated sockets. |

You get these sockets from Hirschmann (brass, gold plated, AC/DC 1000V, 32A, CAT II, contact resistance 5mOhm, threaded connection) e.g. at RS components. The black one has order no. 972354-100 (other colors red -101, blue -102, yellow -103, green -104 and yellow/green -188 and some more colors). And there is a version with 6.3 x 0.8 tab connector (order no. 972356-1..). With the order no. it should be easy to find other suppliers. |
