Title: Aneng V05B Bluetooth ‘SMART’ multimeter - just ordered one :)
Post by: Fraser on March 08, 2021, 12:07:33 pm
I was looking for a simple Bluetooth volt meter for some remote voltage monitoring work in my lab. I found several multimeters and dedicated volt meter modules that offered the Bluetooth connectivity I desired. One little multimeter stood out from the crowd though....... the Aneng V05B Bluetooth enabled SMART multimeter  :-+

So what attracted me to this budget meter ?

1. It is Bluetooth enabled
2. The remote App looks very well sorted  :-+ This is important as some are tragic efforts and useless !
3. The multimeter is auto selecting (SMART) in Volts and Resistance mode and auto ranging.
4. A YouTube review suggested the accuracy was acceptable at the price point
5. The multimeter is compact and comes ready ‘booted’ for some protection from drops or bumps.
6. The internal design does not look like a disaster, unlike some budget multimeters. It does use a 10mm fuse though !
7. Considering the units diminutive size, it has a decent display for ease of reading in ‘local’ operation.
8. Did I mention that it is small ? ..... I like small  :)
9. The power supply is from two cheap 1.5V AAA size cells rather than an expensive, low capacity 9V block  :-+
10. This meter is cheap !  :-+ Considering what it offers, it is good value and not worth making my own Bluetooth volt meter with an Arduino. A perfect fit for what I need in fact. In the USA it costs $18 but I paid £19 due to UK taxes. Mine is coming from a UK warehouse and was shipped within hours of ordering.

The review, test and teardown is here.......

Now this is no giant killer of a meter and I will keep using my Fluke 87 III for my usual work. This little V05B meter is neat and useful though  :-+ I believe the V05B was part of a January 2021 product release so still pretty new to the market. Bluetooth seems to be more common in budget multimeters now and the application used with the Aneng meters appears decent enough. In terms of value for money, the little V05B looks hard to beat. It has Bluetooth equipped bigger brothers with more features and a control knob but at 50% higher cost.

If you need a Bluetooth enabled multimeter for basic tasks, the V05B may be worth a look ?

I will be using the V05B with some very nice Android rugged Tablets that I have. They range in display size from 5” to 10” and are daylight readable types so I will have a nice easily viewed display from the V05B meter.

I should also state that I will not be connecting the V05B to any high energy power circuits. This unit will be lucky to see anything over 24V in its life  :)

Nice. Kudos to Aneng for not plastering this thing with a CAT IV rating, but no cigar yet (no 600V HRC fuse)

I agree. I would not trust most budget multimeters on high energy circuits. There are too many that would literally blow up if a problem occurred. I am going to be using this meter on low voltage, low energy circuits and mainly in Voltage measurement mode.

The 10mm fuse was a surprise ! Like the reviewer, I have to ask why they used such a non standard fuse type ? A 20mm would surely have fitted on the PCB.

For those who are colour conscious, the V05B is supplied with a Red, light Blue or Black protection boot. I chose black as neither the Red nor light Blue appealed.

The banggood  page for the V05B is here

https://m.banggood.com/ANENG-V05B-Digital-True-RMS-bluetooth-6000-Counts-Professional-Analog-Multimeter-AC-or-DC-Currents-Voltage-Mini-Testers-Multimetro-p-1762787.html (https://m.banggood.com/ANENG-V05B-Digital-True-RMS-bluetooth-6000-Counts-Professional-Analog-Multimeter-AC-or-DC-Currents-Voltage-Mini-Testers-Multimetro-p-1762787.html)

I bought mine from an eBay seller with a warehouse in the UK and it was less than £2 more than Banggood who claim their ~£17 price is with 17% discount  :)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/V05B-Digital-Bluetooth-Multimeter-True-RMS-Auto-Range-DC-AC-Voltage-Tester-Color/353337186844?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=622512762093&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/V05B-Digital-Bluetooth-Multimeter-True-RMS-Auto-Range-DC-AC-Voltage-Tester-Color/353337186844?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=622512762093&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649)

Be aware that similar looking Aneng or other branded units may have less features and no Bluetooth ! There are several similar looking meters in the Aneng line up.

I have not found specifications stating battery life yet. I have also not seen its CAT certification beyond what is seen on the meter. There are some other YouTube reviews of the V05B so they may measure the current draw when a Bluetooth link is operating. I will check.

This is just another measurement tool in the tool box and not in the same league as something like a FLUKE 87 series meter. It still has it uses however and my venerable FLUKE 87 III cannot link via Bluetooth  ;D

The Darren Walker review of the Aneng 9002 that shows the Bluetooth app running and his comments on it  :-+ Interestingly the V05B appears a better performer than the more expensive Bluetooth enabled 9002 in some areas  :-+

The App detail comes in at the 10:15 mark in the video.
