Anritsu PSN50 CalXpert software discontinued. Do you have it?
« on: September 30, 2021, 02:52:56 am »
Hi guys.

Just received news from Anritsu that, since the PSN50 power sensor is discontinued, they can't offer any support, including selling related software.

I currently have the option to buy a second hand PSN50. With the CalXpert alibration software, I reckon I could sniff the comms and build my own library.

If you have this software, could you make it available?

Thanks.

I believe the only control software for this line of sensors is their mobile spectrum/network/cellular analyzers.  Though it has a USB connector and interface, I don't know of PC software, but any analyzer hardware with the appropriate high accuracy power meter option gives you the GUI interface for the sensor on the analyzer's screen (and integrated into other displays).

DajMasta, I think that`s indeed the designed use. I actually have a MT8212B, but not the necessary option 19.

This fellow (https://wahz.blogspot.com/2017/12/anritsu-psn50-power-sensor.html) got it pretty far, and I think he didn`t realize he should get the cal factor to correct for the actual frequency.

Analyzing the software manual one can see it does all that`s necessary for standalone operation https://www.anritsu.com/en-US/test-measurement/support/downloads/manuals/dwl008321, hence my interest.

I have completed a program for working with this sensor today.
Works on win 11.
I added this sensor to my laboratory.

Hi,

Looks good. Any chance you can share it here?
I got one PSN50 from a friend but I see no way to make use of it in my lab.

Thanks!

Check out the demo version from Anritsu three posts above.

Oops...I missed that. I saw the picture but not the zip file.

Thanks a lot!

hi

did you have had any success with using psn50 with the app.

i tried app on winxp, it says not a valid win32 app

on win 10 the app runs but the sensor is not getting detected.  few questions

1.  do we need to connect sensor using usb or rs232 to pc
2. if via usb, any specific driver
3. if via rs232 the cable is null modem or simple
4. if via rs232, how do we power the sensor, via 12V or via usb port

9 to 18vdc  on a dc jack   + at the center,  but they say   if powered thru usb  you dont need external psu
usb and or rs232  for legacy connection ?

usb    you should see a device be added in device manager and or an exclamation mark, if so   check the hardware vid / pid to find the needed driver

and you had another thread  if you saw it or not

Thanks for the information.

yes i have seen the thread you mentioned.

when using the USB in Win10, i could see it getting installed as com port.  PID etc is visble

i tried sending IDN command through hyper terminal and Tektronix Talklisten suite to the com port but no response

i also tried the same using USB to serial converter and connecting to RS232 port on sensor but no response

Tried both null modem and straight cable for RS 232 but still no response

i  feel maybe some special driver is needed for USB connection or maybe with a particular PID / VID value

so far i found theses

"Anritsu MA24126A"=DriverInstall.NTamd64, USB\VID_0B5B&PID_FFCF
"Anritsu MA24108A"=DriverInstall.NTamd64, USB\VID_0B5B&PID_FFCE
"Anritsu MA24118A"=DriverInstall.NTamd64, USB\VID_0B5B&PID_FFCB
"Anritsu MA24106A"=DriverInstall.NTamd64, USB\VID_0B5B&PID_FFC9
"Anritsu MA24104A"=DriverInstall.NTamd64, USB\VID_0B5B&PID_FFCC
"Anritsu MA24105A"=DriverInstall.NTamd64, USB\VID_0B5B&PID_FF80
"Anritsu MA24240A"=DriverInstall.NTamd64, USB\VID_0B5B&PID_FF81
"Anritsu Sensor Upgrade Driver"=DriverInstall.NTamd64, USB\VID_03EB&PID_6124

attached some files / drivers

most come from  PowerXpert_V3.50_Full.exe     ...     with peazip   you can open some files  as archive an check in them ..

VID_0B5B  is Anritsu  for sure

but  FFC8  ?

PSN50 docs referes to theses

MT8222A BTS Master and the MS272XB Spectrum Master  or   331D/S332D/MT8212B/MS2711D

its a matter  of finding related drivers ....     PSN50 Power Sensor Drivers ?

stupid  me   |O
in the anritsu PSN50.zip   file  YOU DO have the INF file to install the needed driver / or device informations...  you have to manually  install this driver  by pointing it to the inf  file called   anritsu.inf   ...  while doing a driver search  ...

"Anritsu PSN50"=DriverInstall, USB\VID_0B5B&PID_FFC8

but  i'm waiting for others to see how it goes, and work,  my job wanted to use some of theses  for 1 - 3 ghz signals ....

I tried installing this driver from folder but in win10, it says best driver already installed and is not allowing.

Probably unless this driver gets installed the app won't work

It seems there are two ways to connect.  Usb ir rs232.  Usb will need appropriate driver and rs232 will not require driver.

The power meter app will work on usb mode.

I found another app from anritsu which is similar but connect via rs232.  Will try to connect through this.

I have found a local developer who is willing to sniff usb port on win7 and then write a program from win10 environment.

But to start, need to some how connect to sensor

for the "best installed driver" you can force an removal in the device driver pane,  you have an removal option   ....  a removal   normally would ask for a complete removal too ... ?

or in the device properties driver  you can check  what is used

say like ftdi  xxx prolific  etc ...   windows will enumerate it's  xxx.sys    etc ...      or unless it install like  HID  devices .. i can't say since i don't have one

for Windows i'ts a matter of declaring drivers, and for sure the software may search such declaration in registry or else ...

normally you have the inf file and the cat file,  but windows may pop up the no valid driver signature  .... you would need the change windows into some developer mode / test mode thru msconfig

would finally means this driver was maybe for win 7 win 8,  not 8.1 or 10   etc .....  since 8.1  drivers have enforcement signature added

I think easy and best way in win10 environment is to use usb to rs232 cable.
From the site master schmatics its apparent that all pins of rs232 are being used.  Only 2 3 &5 wont work

New program for Anritsu PSN50 sensors. Works in Windows 10 from USB and Windows 11 from RS-232 via USB to RS-232 adapter.
I also wrote a sensor simulator PSN50 on Arduino and used it to debug the program.

So what's the point of your posts??
Do you want to be praised and applauded or what??
Are you selling, helping or just spamming??
