Antique Meters
« on: December 17, 2014, 02:55:41 am »
I got these meters (and a few other bits) from a fellow Aussie.

Way before my time but great pieces.  :)

I love the fob watch style one too.  Almost a work of art!

The previous owner didn't want them any more, so I put my hand up to stop them going to the tip.

No plans for a tear down just yet.  Will have to see about that when I get some free time.

I think that would be CAT 0. Nil. Nada.

My grandfather was chief engineer at a hospital in Colchester (Essex, UK). He had a meter like that fob-watch one, which I recall in my dad's garage in the 1970s. Wish I knew what happened to it! But it's a bit scary having 120V DC on that prong, right next to the metal case. Yikes! How do you hold that thing safely?

I think that the 'B' refersto a B battery which is 120 V.  They were 3 or 4 inches long and maybe an inch square.  They were used as the plate supply for radios.  I can't imagine that they would have been able to supply much current, so probably not all that dangerous. I would not stick my tongue across it, however...  :P
