Antique Test Equipment Find
« on: November 01, 2014, 10:37:46 pm »
I was out today picking up some supplies from my local surplus when I dug these classic meters up!

Triplett Model 666-H VOM
Simpson Model 372 Ohm Meter

The Triplett has an HV range to 5K and the unit still works great!

Have not tested the Simpson yet.

Gonna add these to my classic collection!  8)

I think you need to share the purchase price for it to qualify as a 'find'  :-//

Scored as a find.  I look for those old Simpson meters often.  The triplet is cool as well.

I paid $40 for my Simpson model 372. It was made in 1963 and is a wreck. What a fun find though. I also bought a brand new model which is back-ordered but will find a place on my bench...because it's a Simpson! So, the discovery and restoration process is so fun! I found an amazing guy at Simpson who sent me the original schematics and has helped my greatly in figuring out the best ways to make this old but fine instrument whole again. Most everything, including the 30v batteries are easy to source. The #4-36 1.5 inch round head brass screws not so much. My new friend at Simpson said he'd check all the junk drawers in the shop and see if he can find some for me. Man I love this hobby. People are amazingly helpful.

See attachments.

Nice finds, I'm glad someone is rescuing these classic instruments. A few years ago I gave away a nice vintage meter similar to the classic Simpson but it was another brand. I think they're cool, but I just don't have the space for more shelf ornaments.

Restoration and completion photos for my 372. A very fun and rewarding project.
