Any Metrix MTX 3291 owners out there ?

(1/1)

shakalnokturn:
Anyone out here have one and willing to take a couple of photos of the PCB's ?

I have a MTX 3290 and am pondering on the possibility to up-hack it.
The main differences are 60k counts (vs. 6k) IR interface, backlight.

A first check on the hardware shows that:
LCD's are identical on both meters set aside the backlight panel.
The 3290 has the IR interface and it is wired to the CPU.
There is no separate serial EEPROM for calibration data but there is an unpopulated 24Cxx compaible footprint next to the CPU.
Both the display/keypad and input PCB's have a set of three resistors that are typical of hardware configuration jumpers (can be soldered either to Vcc or to GND).

You have to compare the chipset used in them to see  if you can add some functions ??  sometimes it could be a FW hack / mod

Metrix could have used proprietary ic's too ?

Dismantle you meter, take photos, show them here,  take note of all the chip markings etc ...

And a 3291 owner will have to teardown his meter too .... try to make fw dumps  etc ...

I'm waiting for mine to come in a few days.

I may take it apart and share photos if you're still interested.

Feel free to ping me in a week or two if I forget.

Hope you'll find what you're looking for.
I didn't see anything obvious.

The manual seem to state that the LCD are different though.

shakalnokturn:
Thanks for going to the trouble of taking the hotos.
I can't see any differences either, so will assume it's only programming.
As for the LCD's I think they are the same physically just both models don't use all the same segments.
