Title: anyone else having issues with their siglent 3045X locking up?
Post by: thom on July 06, 2022, 09:53:10 pm
Howdy, I've had 2/3 of these things ship defective to me. I just chatted with a siglent engineer and he said that they haven't heard of this problem, but I'm wondering if people just aren't reporting it?

in a nut shell, the screen just randomly freezes, buttons become unresponsive, needs to be power cycled to work again. below is a video showing what I mean. the first one of these I bought was a dud but the second was so good that I bought another one, and this other one is exhibiting the issue hours out of the box. the original one had weeks of bench use before it started acting up.

Yet.

Update to latest is my recommendation and stop using your instrument like a rabid dog.
Why ?
Every change you make is written into memory to be recalled at next boot however this doesn’t happen instantly but in a carefully managed manner, especially with the latest firmware.
This has been recently discussed in the SDM3000 thread.

Older firmware was stable until it wasn’t which was unpredictable and 7R1 was developed to overcome some long standing problems.
My best advice is to keep these units updated and although not official from Siglent, set Power On = Last

i've been meaning to update the firmware on the bottom one, but she's been trucking along without issue so I haven't gotten around to it.

also, that is not how I use my instrument, I was trying to display the issue in the clearest possible way, since this is the second meter that has displayed this defect. the meter had been sitting in DCV mode the entire time, working fine for a couple hours before locking up.  the meter had literally only been out of the box it shipped in for 2 hours when I made that video, it's brand new.  it was alarming because it is the exact same issue that the first meter had, but it took weeks for that issue to start happening and I missed my return window.

what I am wondering is if this is an issue other people have been having but not reporting, or if I jsut have very bad luck

Fear not, posting here puts a time and date on the issues you have identified, be they be right or wrong and where others with these units can jump in and report similar problems.

You should of course realize this could be a SW issue and if so, can be fixed with SW.  ;)

If you have both units updated to the same FW and one displays issues and the other don't then of course we need go looking harder.

yeah the faulty one and the original faulty one were both running the latest firmware, the good one is running the old firmware but I'll update it asap so she continues humming along. I'd love this to be a SW issue (but I'm a little skeptical), since if I return this, I won't be able to get another one as they are out of stock, unless I want to pay a few hundred dollars extra (which I don't).

one thing I noticed was that it felt a bit warmer than my good one. I've got them both on the bench in identical settings to run over night, then I'll take some pics with my IR camera and see if it's in my head or not

Oh and BTW, do check and report the HW versions of each unit from the Sys Info page please.

Good and Bad,  :-DD they're the same HW !

So where to from here, have them both on the same FW version of course and you take your pick of which one that may be but do focus on ending up on the latest 07R1. Test with both versions however, a little trick I have found as a result of upgrading every unit we sell it to add one further boot after any firmware upgrade so to give the OS a chance to sort out any gremlins.

lol, what I mean by good and bad is good is the 2nd one I bought that has been working flawlessly, and bad is the 3rd one I just got today that pooped the bed. I'll update the good one for good measure but she hasn't given me any grief yet, she's been so good that i had to buy her a twin.
