Anyone work at Fluke or know someone who does?
« on: March 05, 2021, 07:04:20 pm »
Weird question I realize.

I'm trying to get in contact with someone who works at Fluke.  Ideally someone senior.

I'm trying to get authorization for the release of an old training manual from the late 1980s.  I know where the manual is but the person who possesses it won't release without Fluke auth.   The class was only given once, to 10 people,  so another copy is unlikely to show up.

I figure trying to contact Fluke legal directly is pointless and I need some "inside help".

I don't want to go into more details on what the manual is, or what the course was.

If you think you can help, please PM me (click here)

I don't mean to be rude but this isn't going to work.  It's also not answering the question I asked.

Why don't you believe that contacting the legal department will be helpful?  That's exactly what was done to secure permission to copy and distribute unsupported Tektronix manuals a number of years ago.  The company's chief IP counsel provided a non-exclusive license to copy and distribute obsolete publications, and that was the end of it.

I'd suggest getting in touch with their legal department and ask if they would be willing to agree to the language found in the Tektronix release.  Fluke and Tektronix have a common parent company now, so you could basically write to Fortive and propose that they adopt the same license for all of the individual T&M equipment companies under their control.  It's not an unreasonable thing to ask, especially since Tektronix's legal department already did the work of drafting the license.  If they say "No," then you can try contacting Fluke's own legal department.

I contacted Fluke's legal department to grant permission for me to digitize a VHS training tape and make it available free of charge on the internet.   They were very helpful.

I just reached out to them.  I should have years ago.   They pointed me to the person to talk to.

Thanks everyone.  I assumed it would be a royal PITA and I'd need "inside help".

Thank you all again.  I'll followup with how I get on.
