Title: Are the InfiniiVison scopes a sensible buy now?
Post by: Boscoe on September 14, 2015, 10:35:21 am
So i'm thinking of buying a 2000 series Infiniivision scope. 2 channels 70MHz and perhaps upgrade it in the future. I would want 4 channels in the future but I've not seen whether you can upgrade from 2 to 4 channels?

Anyway I have a £1000 budget and thinking of the Agilent (Keysight) scope but they are over 4 years old and so I wonder if there's a better buy now?

PS. I want to have MSO capabilities in the future.

I think the newer rigols are better value for money.

With the Keysight you will end up paying a lot for various software unlocks.

I am pretty sure you can't upgrade from 2 to 4 channels.

But I think you can upgrade to a MSO-X from a DSO-X.

I have an MSO-X 2024, like it a lot but sometimes wish I had the 3000 series. Though these are a lot more.
You can probably look at the Agilent store, they have refurbished bargains there.

I don't think the 2k models are worth it vs e.g. The rigol. Afaik the MSO functionality is quite limited on the 2k too compared to what it costs.

Maybe save a little longer and ask for a good price on eBay 191617972958

Edit: bleh didn't see it's only 2-ch.

Slim pickings from keysight ebay.
Details about  Keysight Used MSOX3012A Oscilloscope: 100 MHz, 2 + 16 Ch. (Agilent MSOX3012A)
2345 US = 1500 gbp.

I forget how much you can expect to beat them down. Easier to ask for unlocks.

edit: dunno how they can claim MSO without BNC or logic probes.

Was there a deal on the new 3000T. like everything unlocked?

With the 2000 series I would definately not go with the 2 channel Version, as the digital channels (which can be used after hacking or purchasing the MSO package) does not allow any decoding, thus for decoding you need 4 analog channels.

Also it turned out, you will have a hard time to sell a 2-channel 2000series (or 3000series) later.

However, a 4-channel 2000series is OK.
But consider this: As the 2-channel versions (2000 or 3000 series) are hard to sell, you might be able to make a bargain on a 3000series with 2 channels. Here, all 16 digital channels can be used for decoding, triggering etc, thus the 2 missing analog channels might not become a problem for you.
