Title: Bandwidth upgrade for Tektronix DPO2004B?
Post by: Khaveer on February 17, 2022, 08:49:35 pm
Hello. I've purchased an extremely cheap NOS Tektronix DPO2004B scope. I know that there are better options out there, but it was only a bit more expensive than a Rigol 1054z and I prefer the Tek UI.

Of course the first thing that came to my mind was to look for ways to unlock all the extra stuff. I found the thread about modules, but I couldn't find any verified information about the bandwidth. Are there any verified ways to upgrade it?

Hi,
Bandwidth is set by hardware. There is no way to upgrade bandwidth by software.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure about that. I've disassembled the firmware and it turns out that there's a way to upgrade the model number like in the DPO/MSO3000 series: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/dpo3000-hacks/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/dpo3000-hacks/)

I was able to change it to 2024B and it passed the SPC. The 2ns timebase is now present. Now the issue is that I have to get a signal gen that's capable of producing 200 MHz to verify if it really works.

The commands I used were:
Code: [Select]
:PASSWORD INTEKRITY
:SETMODELID 6

Info about bandwidth modification is from our local TEK distribution. I believe that the hardware modification is necessary. Would be nice to check bandwidth.
I am also owner of TEK2k , crippled to 70MHz.
I can try to modify SW and check by HP83630A
