Thoughts on GW Instek GPD-3303S?
« on: June 15, 2017, 10:38:50 pm »
Hello,

I'm in the process of building a small electronics lab and am shopping for a bench PSU. I've come across the GPD-3303S, a gentleman is selling it for $300 CAD (roughly $225 USD). Is the price reasonable ? It looks like a good bench psu and Instek makes solid products.

What I will be using it for: mostly for educational purposes, basic circuit analysis, building rectifiers ccts, mosfet ccts analysis, Arduino stuff and may be some design projects in the future.

I was checking out the popular but modest KORAD KA3005P as a potential buy but perhaps an used psu with more channels could end up being very useful. I can acquire the Korad for ~$250CAD.

There's also the BK1671A-ND for around ~$225 USD but meh.

What do you guys think ? I'm open to suggestions! Thank you kindly :]

I've recently been psu-shopping as well and that was one of the models I considered. Be aware that the newer 3303s units (if there's no gap between the binding posts for the 3 channels on the new ones) seem to have some overshoot problems and possibly poor transient handling on the 2.5/3.3/5v third channel.

As far as I can tell the main 2 channels are fine though, and if you do get an older "gapped" version all 3 channels are good.

For that price I'd spend a little bit more and buy the newer GW Instek GPE-X323 brand new with warranty! At least this model has individual channel controls.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

The thread about the possible problem that BMCha is making reference to can be found here:  https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/instek-gpd-3303s-power-supply-overshoot-opinion-wanted/25/

Also, http://canada.newark.com/ sells the GPD-3303S for $700 (plus sale taxes)... so a nice used one at $300 is probably a good deal.

Any word on the overshoot? I'm looking at this power supply as well but leery about the overshoot.

Hi, does anyone of you encounters a problem with GPD-3303S that is limited to 4.5DCV in both channel 1 & channel 2?
