DB25 to USB? LeCroy 9400A Remote output
« on: September 24, 2019, 10:02:17 am »
I just bagged myself a 9400A oscilloscope, which I've been enjoying a lot so far. Part of the reason I picked this model is the RS232-C output on the back, although now I have the unit in my hands I realise it's a DB-25 connector... I'd like to be able to hook this up to my PC to transfer the points and do automated testing, but I'm not sure how to go about converting the DB-25 output to USB.

It seems like there are many other functional pins on this connector compared to the usual DB9, and whether they can be safely ignored or not, I have no idea.

Hopefully there's an off-the-shelf solution to this, but I'm struggling to find it.

Cheers

Unless it is running synchronous serial, the standard pins as provided on a USB to serial adapter with DE9 are likely to be sufficient
Google "de9 to db25" for some references - e.g. http://cepd.com/calculators/serial.htm

You can connect all 9 signals, or you can start by just connecting TX, RX, GND, then add the hardware handshaking if needed.
Sometimes you need to jumper any missing required signals to another that is active - but usually only on modems and some other specialist comms gear (DCE vs DTE).
