Kyoritsu 1021R multimeter
« on: June 13, 2020, 11:24:50 am »
Hi!
Long time EEVblog YT channel watcher, first time forum poster here.
I have been using a long time Kyoritsu model 1009 entry level multimeter. It is still working just fine. It is just a little bit slow side. Recently I felt need for secondary general purpose multimeter. Since this brand served me well I went down with not so cost effective route and bought new one from same brand.
So I ended up with 1021R model.

Positives:
  • A lot faster than 1009
  • Bigger, back lit screen, although with less contrast than 1009
  • A lot nicer probes, doesnt miss a beat with continuity test
  • Current measuring is simpler to use one 10A terminal, it also allows me for upgrade path - it supports external clamp sensors
  • TrueRMS
  • Measuring precision is also slightly higher compared to 1009

So what about safety (this is one of the reasons I'm leaning towards bigger brands in sub 100€ price range)
It is rated CAT IV 300V / CAT III 600V / CAT II 1000V - not that relevant to my use cases, but it's nice to have capability for rare cases I might need it
Fuse is nicely contained in separate compartment with correct values in line with rating

Q: Could you educate me. What's that clear glass component with "202 T08M" markings next to two green bulky MOV-s (or PTC-s)?

All in all I'm happy with purchase. Since I didn't find previous discussions about this model here decided to share some pics here.

Loving the neon used as a GDT, almost makes you wish for a view port so you can watch as you deliberately overload it!   ^-^

Thanks fanOfeeDIY for link!

If it's GDT then those green ones are most likely PTC-s.

The green ones are definitely PTCs, somehow they are mostly written as polyswitch or resettable fuse, and rare to see PTC here written in Japan

How about the features and ranges?

Is it able to measure milliamps and microamps?
