Bluetooth DMM - Alternative to Their Crappy Software?
« on: September 23, 2017, 11:07:09 pm »
I picked up a cheap Bluetooth-equipped DMM.  It's marketed by General Tools as Model TS04, but it's actually a Mastech MS8238D - it's actually silkscreened on the board.

Unfortunately, the software doesn't work on my phone.  General Tools just shrugged and said they only support major phone brands - mine is a cheap Chinese phone, but it is running Android 7.0.  It has no trouble detecting and pairing with the DMM, but the app says it can't find the DMM.  From what I've seen online, even if the app works, it's rather poor.

I've never tried software hacking bluetooth, so I was wondering if someone could point me at some tools and info to help me dig into this and figure out what's going on and maybe cobble together something to pull data out of this DMM

TIA,
Ed

Sorry, no answer to your question, but I would like to bump this thread up and also ask for Android apps recommendations that can capture DMM data via BT.

I just ordered another cheapie DMM (Southwire 16040T), and am looking for alternatives since the official Southwire app does not appear all that great.
