BM235 - grabber ends that'll attach to existing leads?
« on: May 05, 2020, 07:07:13 pm »
Hi - Sorry if this is a dumb question - I'm the happy owner of a EEVBlog BM235, and I'd really like to add a set of grabber ends. I don't really want a whole new set of leads: The existing ones are great, and I don't really want to plug/unplug them to switch.

I'd like to get just the grabber part that you can attach to the end - but I have no idea how to tell if they will fit...

Basically I want something like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33049833782.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000014.8.30d446a42qJ8LG&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller&scm=1007.14976.157518.0&scm_id=1007.14976.157518.0&scm-url=1007.14976.157518.0&pvid=62573d87-328e-49e5-a310-e505bd74b6c5&_t=gps-id:pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller,scm-url:1007.14976.157518.0,pvid:62573d87-328e-49e5-a310-e505bd74b6c5,tpp_buckets:668%230%23169576%231_668%23808%235965%23464_668%23888%233325%237_4976%230%23157518%230_4976%232711%237538%23523_668%232846%238111%23435_668%232717%237559%2322

...it says it has a 4mm opening, which might fit the banana plug, but doesn't fit the screw threads (which are like 2mm).

Apologies if this is a repeat - I tried to wade through the existing threads, and the posts I could find talked about full replacement leads (not just the ends...)

Thanks!

I would get the Brymen BL21S2-T4SC test leads, whose probe tips have a threaded base for the T4S screw-on banana plug adapters - then you can attach both 2mm and 4mm probe tips.

Otherwise you'll need something with a 2mm spring-loaded socket. The Hirschmann 973501100 and 973501101 are like the ones linked to in your post; they're good quality but not rated for HV.  Cat III parts are generally 4mm.

I think those are basically the ones that I got with the meter - It's a 2mm probe that accepts a thread-on 4mm banana plug that I have.

Thanks for the tip on the "spring loaded socket" - I didn't know how they lead connect. So I presume the one I linked to on Ali-express, when it said it has a 4mm connector then it's likely 4mm spring loaded for the larger connector and not designed for the banana plug?

The Hirschmann ones do look to be what I want. They seem tough to acquire though...

Great, then they should work with smooth/unsprung 4mm sockets too.

That comment was about the  type of socket you need if you only have bare 2mm probe tips with no other attachment.

Looking at the photos for the aliexpress ones more closely, they seem to be threaded and hopefully compatible with your Brymen leads.  Worth a punt for $3 anyway.

Also a bit pricey and only CAT I rated - but good if you need compact 2mm probes.
