I have an Agilent E4411B ESA Analyser. It worked perfectly, but only had 16mB flash memory and small RAM. I decided to do the memory and firmware upgrade. I bought a used, but known good, 32mB flash stick and RAM from another ESA.
I put the new flash and RAM in and powered on my ESA. I just got the blank white screen.
I have a set or original OEM discs for the firmware upgrade. So I put the first disc in and re-booted. The drive LED briefly lit up but still white screen of death.
I erased the dynamic and flash memory following the procedure in the manual, tried the firmware disc again, still same white screen of death.
I refitted the original flash memory and RAM... surprise, white screen of death!
The heartbeat LED is on continuous as is two of the boot LEDs. This combination indicates a checksum error I think.
So, it should have worked and I'm not sure why it hasn't. I'm not sure why the original flash and ram no longer work. I would say it's not reading the disc properly, but I have tried a 2nd disc and still no good
**SOLVED**
The disks I had were old and no good. Tried again with a fresh download and new disks and it worked. Firmware now installed.
