Executive summary:
Brymen 869s and the BU-86X interface
** on Windows with the supplied software: no go.
** on Windows with Test Controller: works.
** on Linux with Test Controller: no go.

Details below.

I just got my Brymen 869s and the BU-86X interface.  I also installed the included (seems antique) software on Windows 11.

Tried to link to the DMM but I am getting a "USB adapter cable not found" error even though the DMM appears in the devices list as Superior DMM.

Then I installed Test Controller in the same Windows 11 machine and it had no problem finding and connecting to the DMM.

Now I try on my main Linux machine, a POP OS (based on Ubuntu) with Test Controller but it fails here and I am not sure why.
Here is the log:

Code: [Select]
;; jSerialComm version: 2.10.3
;; Start thread for: HIDv0820p0001 - Brymen BM869s
;; HIDv0820p0001: Found HID: 046D C332  30 36 36 31 33 36 35 38 33 39 33 33

;; Stopping thread for: HIDv0820p0001 - Brymen BM869s

;; Use "Load devices" page for selecting devices to load. Most devices will only load if they are connected and ready.

As you can see it starts a thread for: HIDv0820p0001 - Brymen BM869s
and then stops the thread for: HIDv0820p0001 - Brymen BM869s

My Java version is java "17.0.1 2021-10-19 LTS"

Is it a permission issue, something else? Any suggestions?

Good Morning Le_avion,   My BN869S has been connected to my laptop for a couple years now and has worked from the get-go with the BU-86X interface.   My laptop is using Windows 10.   So maybe your issues have to do with the difference
in the versions of Windows. :-//

I have longer time not used the interface and the (indeed antique looking) software. For testing, I plugged in the USB adapter, started the software, linked the meter, and it works perfect under Windows 11 24H2.  :-//  I also never had Problems with Windows 7 and 10 in the past.

Have a look at https://www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/brymen-bc-86p-usb-adapter-firmware-with-usbtmc-scpi/
The latest release of the BM869s doesn't work out of the box with BU-86X adapter.

Various work around are present in that post:
- simple sheet of paper between the adapter and the DMM
- replacing a resistor on the adapter
- replacing a resistor on the DMM
- replacing the firmware on the adapter

I guess you can start from the simplest one and then make a choice

Let us know the outcome.
Thank you.

PS I found Pulseview from Sigrok project the easiest way to log data from the BM869s.
Unfortunately I am on a travel and don't have the command line ready at the moment.

The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.

Thank you for your reply.

I not sure it is the same issue because I found that the adapter and DMM combination works fine under Windows 11 with Test Controller but the same combination fails under Linux. That's why I was wondering if it is a permission issue but I didn't find any error messages in the Linux logs.
