Siglent SDS1052DL VS Rigol DS1052E
« on: July 06, 2014, 06:38:22 am »
I've found both of these oscilloscopes being sold by Tequipment and I was wondering which one is better for a beginner? I'm currently looking for a cheap analog oscilloscope but if that search doesn't prove fruitful, I'll be aiming for a new digital one.

Here are the respective links:

Sigilent: http://www.tequipment.net/Siglent/SDS1052DL/Digital-Oscilloscopes/

Rigol: http://www.tequipment.net/RigolDS1052E.html

The Sigilent is a bit cheaper but the Rigol may be more reliable? Any opinions on these two?

I can offer some advice on the Siglent SDS1052DL.
Looking at my data and pricing, I feel the SDS1072CNL, while being slightly more expensive, is a much better buy.
The SDS1072 has 70 MHz bandwidth, twice the sampling rate at 1 GSs/s and sightly more memory.
Additionally as it seems everyone is into hacking, the CNL version can have the additional memory installed to upgrade it to CML specs(2M).
There is a thread on EEVblog describing this upgrade and the memory chip part number.
I could not recommend this until the warranty has expired.

Reliability.
I have supplied a few dozen Siglent's to the NZ market and have never had any failures.
