Fluke 77 case screw specs? (SOLVED -- thanks)
« on: October 27, 2019, 09:31:29 pm »
My father passed 3 weeks ago, and my sister and I are still clearing the house he lived in for 56 years. One of the things I have found is an original Fluke 77. Strangely it's in a Fluke 73 styrofoam and paper box with a Fluke 73 manual. I put a battery in it, and it appears to be in good working order. However, it is missing the four case screws that hold the back to the front. Does anyone have the exact specs (size, length, pitch) of the original Fluke case screws? I don't want to jam random screws into those old plastic posts. I plan to keep the meter.

Hi

That auction site has a seller "a-fluke" who has those screws in sets of three or four for a few bucks. (No connection) I believe the screws are an #5 with a 14 pitch, which is a combination that doesn't seem to occur much in hardware stores, at least I haven't ever found them. I have bought his screws, and they are the right ones.

The screws are labelled 5-14X3/4 in the Fluke 70 series service manual:

Hi.
I tried to buy the screws from Fluke in UK.
First, they do not deal with general public, have to use dealer.
Second, they only supply them in bags of 100  :palm:
Good luck.

Be careful with tightening those bad boys. i have one and its too easy to strip them with too much torque.

Use whatever thread style screws fit in there easily, and snugly on that last 'careful with not too much torque' turn,

and don't stress about sourcing those cheapass penny pinching Fluke self crapping screws with agro threads that bite into the plastic

which can WILL eventually crack the posts after a few battery swaps or overpriced fuse replacements,
no matter what careful, documented method used, be it by a seasoned pro who starts the screwing/seating process backwards first,
or the tradie/DIY numbskull with their new cordless impact drill  >:D

That's worthy of The Finger x2, why don't Fluke just say "NO, buy a new meter"  and be done with it

'general public'? what happened to 'customers' that pay quicker than corporats ?

and what price that bag of 100 ? same price as 50 new meters ?   :--

                                                                              ^^^ this.

Don't do it any other way.
