Hi Everyone

Happy New Year!

I just wanted to seek some advice and hoping you could help.

We are beginning work on the second stage of our website which will be filling in all the products etc.  I'm a bit stuck on the Manufacturer's tab. We offer both new and used test equipment.   Given that Agilent changed it's name to Keysight a year or two ago.. I don't know if I should just use Keysight or if I should seperate it by having one Manufacturer title as Agilent/HP and another as Keysight.

If you are looking for used equipment would you type in Agilent / HP or would you type in Keysight?

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate your help.

Have a great day and Happy 2017!

Joy  :D

I think enough people are probably familiar with the name change to be able to get by with only Keysight listed on menus. Search results showing any of the 3 names interchangeably could be a bit tricky though. When hunting for used equipment I've often ended up doing broad searches for all three. If I'm after a specific model, the age the model has generally determined which name I search for. Combined search results for the different names could be quite helpful in some cases. Good luck either way!

I only ever search for hp/agilent since as a hobbiest I cant afford keysight, a simple fact. but that is simply the way I work.

Old gear - HP/Agilent
New gear - Keysight
Some of the gear - HP/Agilent/Keysight :)

List all three, and link all to the same content.

Agreed! I think there is equipment which is sold under the Keysight brand which has also been sold under the HP and Agilent brand.

And have your search auto-substitute, so a search for any of the names will return relevant results for all of them.

Hmmh, I'd treat the names as synonymous when searching, but as separate entities when presenting the results.  There are devices which where sold under two names, e.g. the 34401a.  Somebody might care about the age of the unit and the name is a coarse classification.

thank you.  I am so grateful for all your advice.

I know some items are still made new like for example the N5182B.. So some of you are suggesting I put it both under keysight and Agilent/HP?  I think I can tag it to pull up as both in the back end.. if someone were to click on the manufacturers tab and click on Agilent/HP and Keysight.

I don't think I can make it up come up as both if someone was to type for example keysight N518b in the search box.  I'll have to ask the web designer.

If anyone has any other opinions by all means please share.

I'd highly recommend doing so. This will differentiate your good site UX compared to your competitors, which go just to plan text search. I can use google for that too :D.

And not only HP/Agilent/Keysight changed names, but many other instruments were changed brands too. Some Fluke instruments are come from Philips, Wavetek (which was Datron before Wavetek). Recent Danaher merger makes Keithley and Tektronix same now, e.g. search on Tektronix Model 2002 should bring you to Keithley 2002 (yea, I know it's obscure). Surely these examples not any means to be full.

For search terms/keywords, I'd add all three. Looking at your current manufacturer's pages I'd also have the Agilent, HP, and Keysight links all go the the same page.

It can't really hurt for you to have all three tabs/links, but maybe put a little blurb about the name changes on the landing pages for those tabs.

For product searches like DSOX2024A I'd expect to land at a specific product page, not necessarily a "manufacturer" page. Feel free to contact me outside of this thread if you'd like to discuss further!.
