Title: Cheap "P6100" Teardown
Post by: Detzi on August 18, 2018, 10:01:34 am
Hi there,
so it happened that i wanted to teardown one of these Cheap P6100 clones off eBay. They are actually very easy to disassemble, much easier than i thought.
The two gray "rubber" things on the handpiece can be loosened by a bit of torsion, breaking the glue and then pulling them off. On the bigger one with the cutout for the switch and the strain relief, one sould loosen the strain relief first though, otherwise you will rip the coax off the pcb (as i did). The "PCB-Rod" is a slight press fit and can also be pulled out with some care not to deform the rod. The upper part is just plugged together, a slight bend on the rubber thing lets it snap out and the rest falls apart. Haven't found a teardown here so i thought i share it.

Thanks for the teardown - I'm unfortunately stuck with a couple of these steaming piles of garbage myself. Not even real resistive co-ax, so they ring really badly.
I had bought them in the hope that they'd be useful throw-in-the-tool-bag probes that I wouldn't care about if they broke, but they're not even good enough for that. I may have a play turning one into a Z0-style probe with a 450R tip resistor and 50R termination, but it's probably a bit of a waste of time. I'll post here again if I have any luck.
