Cheap source of TekProbe connector
« on: December 28, 2019, 01:30:39 am »
I was looking for a reasonably priced source of a TekProbe connector for a DIY probe and discovered the 013-0278-00 video clamp accessory. These are currently almost worthless due to the general demise of analog video, I bought a set of 6 of them for $22 and saw many more for under $20 each although I suspect by posting this the prices will triple overnight after I post this. What you get is a housing identical to the compensation box on many of the Tek active probes with a TekProbe BNC  that has pogo pins in the +/-15V and +/-5V locations. The holes are present in the housing for the other locations and it looks like it should be possible to relocate them as needed.

For that matter we can just buy a Tek probe with Tekprobe interface on ebay, such as

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tektronix-Tek-P6131-1-3M-10M-10-0pF-10X-Oscilloscope-Probe/233537195389?epid=1001569430&hash=item365fe6cd7d%3Ag%3AZYMAAOSwyyleeWaQ&LH_BIN=1

for $13, but I hate to tear up a beautiful probe just to make my own gadget :-(!

Well the tip is broken so that probe is a parts unit anyway.

The beauty of these video clamps is that they're virtually useless even in good condition, and they have a large compensation box with space for active circuitry.

i teared apart 1 or 2 Tek probe, some of them maybe still working when purchased used i think. its just ringless BNC and the pogo pins enclosure can be 3d printed i guess... i think asking for cheap source will be a tough call since it is a Tek's property. am also want to build custom probe, but not for Tek's scope, i dont own one. i bought few bunches Tek's probe to see if i can salvage the GHz active tip end for general purpose scope, havent got time yet. ymmv.

I already found a cheap (for now) source, that's why I started this thread.
