Connecting Agilent U1253A Multimeter to Arduino via IR Port
« on: February 04, 2024, 12:00:55 am »
Hello everyone,

I'm currently working on a project where I need to interface an Agilent U1253A multimeter with an Arduino using its IR port. I've been searching for resources or examples online, but haven't found much information on this specific task.

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience or tips on how to achieve this connection.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Thank you for sharing the protocol description.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to use a standard adapter since the USB port on the multimeter will be occupied by my computer for control purposes. Instead, I'll need to interface with the multimeter using the input and output pins on the Arduino.

If anyone has experience with creating a DIY adapter or could provide a schematic for connecting the multimeter to the Arduino using the input and output pins, I would be very grateful.

Thank you again

You only need to make the IR interface and connect it to the serial port in the Arduino.

It seems to use plain serial through a IR diode and phototransistor:
