Datron 1271 or 1281 displays (Itron DC405E2)
« on: July 05, 2017, 05:28:52 pm »
A friend has a 1281 with both VFDs open to air :(.

Does anyone have any spare?  Or have built a replacement using modern VFD or LCDs?

Hi
I assume you have posted same request at [volt-nuts]

I had same problem some years ago, both 1281 displays have been brocken during shipment.
You may find the posts here in the forum:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/looking-for-datronwavetek-1271-or-1281-display-unit/msg499126/#msg499126

For the left value/mode display I have not yet found a solution, but I guess a graphic display with fitting length and heigt would be the best.

For the right menu/control display I have found a suitable display, but id would need a voltage converter to 5V and a MCU, which converts the serial graphic information into a graphic display controller format. I have started the sw design, but than I was lucky to get a complete worlking display board for a low budget and so I stopped working on.
You can find the so far result at following site: https://xdevs.com/fix/d1281/

PS / Added: I did the Itron communication trip already (even with Japan direct). No chance to get NOS parts. Both where custom displays. Best result: I got the data sheet of the DC405E2, which Todd Micaleff posted at his xDevs 1281 repair site.

I understand it's been a long time but, if you haven't thrown away the instrument yet, now there is a chance to have at least one alternative display.
