This just showed up:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DER-EE-DE-5000-High-Accuracy-Handheld-LCR-Meter-with-TL-21-TL-22-New-/321347790053?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ad1d224e5 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/DER-EE-DE-5000-High-Accuracy-Handheld-LCR-Meter-with-TL-21-TL-22-New-/321347790053?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ad1d224e5)
Right next to the picture it says the item location is California, but further down in all the text it's obvious it really ships from Japan. But, 50 bucks (plus shipping, of course)? Wow!

Seller has no previous sales (no feedback) so I wouldn't recomend buying from him...

Looks like a very poor cut and paste of http://www.ebay.com/itm/DER-EE-DE-5000-High-Accuracy-Handheld-LCR-Meter-with-TL-21-TL-22-New-Japan/161104294237?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222003%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20468%26meid%3D5415205894490332241%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D9138%26rk%3D0%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D321347790053&rt=nc (http://www.ebay.com/itm/DER-EE-DE-5000-High-Accuracy-Handheld-LCR-Meter-with-TL-21-TL-22-New-Japan/161104294237?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222003%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20468%26meid%3D5415205894490332241%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D9138%26rk%3D0%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D321347790053&rt=nc)
It screams scam merchant. |O

I agree it looks fishy, but if it's a scam, why would s/he sell a relatively obscure and low-price item like this and not Macbooks or Xboxes or flatscreen TVs?

Who says they don't? They may have 100s of accounts offering various bogus items. Not too hard, since they've just copied & pasted someone else's page.

Does not PayPal protection protects you? Also if he has PayPal he must have creditcard as backup...?

Still makes no sense, why would they even bother listing a $50 item when they could be listing a $500 item?
They keep selling though, 4 so far, including one in the past few minutes. At least some of the buyers must surely be from this forum?

Here is the real listing from japanesiana::

Just so you guys know, when posting an eBay link you can cut off the question mark and everything following it and the link will still work.

You can even cut out the text:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161104294237 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/161104294237)
;)

I came real close to clicking "Buy It Now", but I'm just too suspicious of it being a scam. You can't really believe all that eBay and PayPal "buyer protection" crap. I've been there. They'll do everything in their power to weasel out of paying a claim.
-
Even shorter: http://cgi.ebay.com/161104294237 (http://cgi.ebay.com/161104294237)
Anyway ... I had to use the PayPal protection once or twice and I got my money back. So I don't see why it shouldn't apply here.
I just saw that another one was just sold. Maybe it was somebody from here, who could tell us something about the seller?

That is not the scammers sale - it looks legit to me.
The scammer had 0 feedback and was selling for $49. The listing appears to have been pulled by ebay.
-
Why bother. Just bought from a reputed seller (japanesiana) for a bit more, but free shipping and nice quick and friendly handling. It's not something you buy every month...
One of my best ebay purchases yet.
-
We have seen this before here on the forum. Sellers with no feedback have listed for sale Fluke 87V, Fluke 17B, Greenlee DM860 and even the Vichy VC99. I'm not going to search the forum for each of the above, but the threads are there for those interested.
The sellers usually indicate they have 5 or more of each + free shipping. They usually cut and paste someone's description and photo and don't bother to change them.
Ebay is likely going to protect the buyer in these situations, but given the nature of the auctions, I only risk what I can "afford" to lose.

eBay pulled the plug pretty quickly, wonder what they went by? Since the listing was new, it couldn't have been buyers complaining. Probably a hacked PayPal account.
Whatever, the price from Japan is pretty good. But I was tempted to get a second DE 5000, just in case :P
