Agilent DSO6000 series intensity controller part #?
« on: February 17, 2019, 12:54:18 pm »
I'm hoping that someone may be able to ID this encoder. The shaft is broken off.
Part is marked B204X1, and it has seven pins which is unusual...

Thanks!

It is a dual potentiometer, it must be one of these (obsolete):
   PTV142B20E120AB204 Volume
   PTV142B20Y120AB204 Tone

Where (B204X1):
   B -> Linear Taper
   204 -> Resistance Code
   X1-> ?
My English can be pretty bad, so suggestions are welcome. ;)

At first, I thought you were nuts! A pot in a fairly modern DSO??!!! :-DD

It is a pot, though. I wonder why they did this?
Thank you very much - I never would have found this looking for encoders...

@Jwalling:

I don't need one, but...
Please let us know if you can find a replacement.

Some time ago I only found this one:
https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/tt-electronics-bi/P140KV1-F25BR10K/987-1296-ND

Not a 200k one, but it might allow you to replace the broken shaft.

I am surprised too, to learn that this scope has a dual pot instead of an encoder.
Over the years I have replaced may Agilent encoders.

Does the Keysight parts website list this potentiometer?
May be the scope is too old for that ?

Yep, not a problem. I already bought few 100K linear-taper parts this morning from Onlinecomponents. It would probably work as-is, but I'm going to harvest the shaft from it and put it on the original pot with the 200K resistive elements. They're easy to dis-assemble by bending four tabs. I'll take pictures and post them when I get the part and do the repair.

No, they don't sell that part. I think the only component level part on the ACQ board that they sell, is the cal protect slide switch which fails all the time in these (and DSO5000A) for some reason. CK 101 series IIRC.

So I ended up buying QTY 5 part # PTV142B20E120AB104 from onlinecomponents.com for $14.54 USD including shipping. (The shipping was more than the parts...)
Rather than trying to use to old element, I put the new 100K part in. It works fine.

Thanks very much again, Carrington!
