Buying used Fluke 123B
« on: August 23, 2020, 11:12:17 am »
I'm interested in buying a used Fluke 123B scopemeter for hobby as a portable scope but I have some questions:
  • It has not been calibrated since it was first purchased (2017) , should that be a problem?
  • Is there an diagnostic inside that will show an error message when calibration is way off?
  • Anyone else like to share experiences with this scope for hobby use?

Answers:
- Probably not, depends what they were doing with it. if it was on the shelves somewhere, or they were regularly dropping it from the top of a cell tower.
- No, thats not how calibration works
- This is a very expensive specialized equipment for field use, hobbyists usually dot do that, or they buy something that is better value for the money. Consider if you really need an isolated battery powered oscilloscope with some lacking features.

No I don't , but I can get it at a good price used , so I might go for it. I have no special requirements. But i do appreciate the portable function.
Microcontroller stuff , audio and general troubleshooting < 20Mhz & Occasional car Electrics checking.

I've use some older fluke scopemeters while troubleshooting machines in steel factories in the past, not so new as 123B.

I would buy them? Well, if you work with high energy environment and need something that is dumb proof and do not need much resources then flukes scopemeters is for you.

If you value you money and want to have a fast and resourceful which  does not cost a arm and leg then, don't get a Fluke Scopemeter.

Do you need isolated channels? Check the siglent portable, wanna go cheaper? Go for a used Agilent U1604B.
Don't need isolated channels? Micsig STOxxxx

I own a THS720, slow, old, no memory at all, but a work horse for field use. Looking to sell it soon
