Detailed manual or book for my new RTB2004 wanted
« on: May 19, 2021, 04:04:20 pm »
Hello to the oscilloscope experts,
I have since a few months a RTB2004
and I am looking for a documentation with measurement examples, especially for the analysis of unique processes like measuring currents and voltages at power-on and the use of serial bus protocols like SPI, UART, I2C, ...
I have already tested a bit with the protocols using the built-in pattern generator, but it always provides only continuous protocols and no one-offs.

I would prefer a documentation/book from practice with many measurement examples.
But no general written documentation, but written as close as possible to the RTB.

And preferably in German ;-)

Thanks in advance

Well, to be honest, I don't think you'll find much. Who would be writing a book about using a specific scope model? You have the scope's manual, and there's resources about using scopes (I actually don't know a good book, but there's some good appnotes and whitepapers).

.. and then in German?
I have an RTB2k and can answer your questions in German if you want (although PMs might be more appropriate for that on an international forum like this). But for discussions in German about using a scope, using the RTB, and finding the book you're looking for, mikrocontroller.net might actually be a better place.

If English is fine after all, your best bet might be to simply ask your questions about scoping technique and tips&tricks here, instead of looking for a book that answers them all. Most of those techniques are fully transferrable between scopes anyway, and there's a sufficient number of RTB users on eevblog to answer specific UI questions or point out limitations of the RTB.

OTOH, R&S are marketing the RTB2000 for the educational market, so they might actually have course material. I didn't see anything after a quick google, but it might be worth a shot to ask them? Try info@rohde-schwarz.com, or contacting Rich from R&S USA here on eevblog by PM.

Dear Frank,

Unfortunately, like Zlotnik says, there is no such book. And no manufacturer has one, there are educational materials and scope manuals.. Most of them are interchangeable between scopes, because scopes are quite similar in basic way of operation, and also some measurements just have to be done in a specific way, regardless of the scope.
Also, on a philosophical note, I personally try to learn anything in universal, nonspecific way. That way it doesn't matter what equipment I use, I know how to accomplish something. Not a critique, just a different view...

If you come up with a concrete, more specific questions, I'm sure you can get a lot of help here. Even some useful help sometimes...  ^-^

All the best,

I hope may be they have a German version but I found the Manual and the Application Notes should be sufficient. It's a very nice scope though.

Thank you for your answers.
You are right, but it was worth a question here, could have been.

For each digital camera is a book available , but with measuring instruments is probably unfortunately not the case,
these are much longer in use than a short-lived digital camera.

Then I'll ask concrete questions here little by little ;-)

Yes, the RTB is a nice piece of equipment, but you have to learn how to use it properly.

Speaking of cameras I never find third party books to be useful. It's the manual that came with the camera is most useful. The reason you don't see those books for the Scope is that fewer people have the same scope you do as compared to people who have the same camera model.

Hello,

it exist a book in deutsch from Herbert Bernstein "Messen mit dem Oszilloskop".
https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783658310912

The book is from 2020 but it seams to be from far earlier.
Almost 100 pages about "Arbeiten und Messen mit dem analogen Oszilloskop"
Almost 120 pages about "Mixed-Signal-Oszilloskop „Agilent 54622D"
Almost 50 pages about "Tektronix-Oszilloskop TDS 2024"

Best regards
egonotto

That looks horribly outdated...  :palm:
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Yes, I've already found the book online, but that would require going to a bookstore to see the contents.

Thank you,
Frank

PS.: yes, it looks a bit dusty from the cover ;-)
