DH-801 Electronic load
« on: April 17, 2024, 03:30:36 pm »
I was browsing for an electronic load for the home lab. Ideally I wanted to buy a Rigol DL3021, but I'm having hard time justifying it's cost, since it's one of the least used instrument. So I was browsing for DC loads, and I came across this thing:

Form what I can see it's called DH-801 Electronic load, and it costs 70 EUR. I cannot identify the manufacturer of it based on the logo. The serial port is optional, I would like to have it, but I cannot seem to find any seller with it. Google turns up nothing.
Does anyone have any info what this is? Is it good for testing DC-DC converters?
From what I can see, I definitely wouldn't trust 20A on that banana connector. And It seems to lack CC-CV battery testing function, or a way to show mAh.

The in-between would be the ET5410A
about $150 and there is a lot of info about these devices.

I've been digging down a bit about this.
A power supply seems to be also sold under the brand and name: MTKY DH-3010 which has the same interface and house size.
Dongguan Mengtai Instrument may be the manufacturer, but there doesn't seem to have any website for this company.

I was curious about it too, it seems to be a generic design, for example here's one from the China Instruments Store.

Now look at this very familiar-looking power supply also from MTKY, if you had them on the shelf next to each other you could end up destroying the DUT if you used the wrong one.  Or you could use it as a hands-on teaching experience for interns :-).

Having said that, for about the same price you can get one of the ET 540x models, which seem a lot more capable and aren't an unknown brand.

Mine just arrived

The manufacturer is Duo He Yi Dian Zi (English name in manual: Guangdong Duoheyi Electronic Technology Co., Ltd) : http://www.dhytech.com . The 'DH' in the product names stands for Duo He (or DuoHeyi)  ;)

Direct link to the DH-801 : http://www.dhytech.com/pro_55419394.html
Manual for the DH-801 located here "DOWNLOAD" (could not direct link, due to hot link protection) : http://www.dhytech.com/dom/down_list.php?username=duoheyi&channel_id=27928308

The unit is very small 230x100x170 and came with a manual v1.02 in Chinese and English. I bought it at AliExpress from KeLian Electrical Instruments Store. Prices have gone up (+20 €). I have not opened the unit yet, since it is literally 5min out of the box. Fan runs when load is active. When load is not active, it stops after cooling down.

The unit seems well constructed from the outside, package was damaged and padding was minimal. Fortunately there were no dents or scratches.

On startup the version of the device is shown: Hardware: 1.4 and Software: 1.1 for my device.

By coincidence my new high-tech electronic load also just arrived.  Based on this post about a (relatively) cheap electronic load that injected a large amount of noise back into the power line which made power supply noise measurements difficult, I thought I'd go for the latest high-tech linear ohms-law-based purely resistive load, complete with current limiting (I glued a plastic tab over the track so you can never take the resistance below a few ohms), full programmability (via the person turning the dial), and good precision (once I mark the various resistance values on it):

Hi flash2b,

Congrats! :)  Very small indeed.

Is your DH-801 remote controllable? On the website of the manufacturer are only vague hints to RS-232...
So, connectors on the back panel? Supplied software?

regards, Gertjan.

The one I bought is without the RS232, since KeLian Electrical Instruments Store only had that one. In the manual there is nothing mentioned about SCPI, only a mentioned that RS232 is optional. My hope is that the unit can be easily fitted with a TTL to USB serial converter but that I will see after opening it.  8)
