DHO800 No firmware Available
« on: November 06, 2024, 07:14:09 am »
Hi all

I tried to search the forum and I did not see this issue but I just got a DHO804 and it came with 1.1 FW. I tried to install 1.2 but the scope will never find any USB drives or sd cards in readers. I even did a reset of the scope and now its saying its FW version 1.0 :-(

I have 2 USB drives both are USB 3 256GB and 512GB and I tried a 4GB micro SD card in a reader. I can see the storage in the settings but I do not know how to run the file browser. I really don't want to have to return / exchange the scope.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have tired multiple downloads of 1.2 and the 1.3 I found on the internet to no avail.

Also has anyone messed with the developer options and does the force MSAA show any difference?

Thanks

USB drives should work. I don't know what's going on there. Are they formatted with FAT32?

Does a mouse work in the USB port? If not, it might be a hardware fail.

The other way is to copy the file onto the 'scope over Ethernet. Use FTP. You can select the file from local storage in the update dialog.

You need to try other usb sticks! These devices are always picky.

Yes USB mouse and Keyboard are working.
Even if you go into the Android settings and look at the storage it sees the storage device and the right size. Android is even copying into the USB drive the android files so I do not understand.

They were formatted Fat 32. :-(

I seem to recall (from my brief DHO1000 ownership) that there are two firmware update paths -- one to download firmware from a cloud server, and one via a USB stick. And the way the two options were placed and named in the menus invited you to "take a wrong turn", asking for a cloud update when you wanted one via USB.

Maybe a DHO800 owner could clarify the right steps, and/or @leafi could describe in detail what was tried and failed?

EDIT: Found it in the manual. For a USB-based upgrade, you need to go via the Storage menu > Upgrade. Do not go via the "R" gearwheel icon > Upgrade icon, that will attempt a cloud update!

IIRC you have to select the file properly in the upgrade menu. You have to touch the dot/circle next to the file name or something like that, it can be slightly confusing.

The other way it to put it on USB stick and make sure it's called "DHO800_DHO900_Update.GEL" and also make a file called "force_update_sparrow.txt" on there.

Put the stick in the 'scope and power it on, it should update itself.

Yes this is correct! Thanks!

Also From Rigol

Thanks for reaching out to Rigol. In response to your enquiry, please find below the procedure and recommendations for upgrading the DH800/900 firmware.
Download the latest firmware version from the link 00.01.02.00.02.
Use a low-capacity(<8gb) FAT32 formatted USB drive.
Use the 7zip software for decompressing the firmware file.
Disconnect all the probes from the oscilloscope.
On your DHO800, tap the "R" icon > Storage >  Upgrade > Tap on Local Disk > Tap on the inverted triangle > Removable USB Disk (D:) > Find the GEL file and tap on the circle located next to it> OK > Upgrade.
Once the upgrade is completed, wait for 30 minutes and run Self-Cal.
