DHO924S vs MSO5074 vs SDS804XHD+AWG
blaisesaunders:
Howdy all,
Tearing my hair out trying pick a scope over the past few weeks |O . Have scrubbed just about every inch of the internet for info on these scopes and can't make my mind up so asking for help from the experts.
My focus is on audio/synthesizer design, so I'm not too concerned about bandwidth but rather accuracy, resolution, and especially bode plot functionality. I'm torn between a few models:
Rigol DHO924S: Obviously heard great things but worried about poor accuracy vs siglent and being stuck with internal questionable quality AWG for bode plots. Plus seems expensive for what it is
Rigol MSO5074: For what I'm paying for the 924S I might as well get this right?? But I'm concerned about its age and the lack of 12-bit resolution.
Siglent SDS804XHD: Appeals due to double the FFT data points over the 924S and compatibility with higher quality external AWGs. However I've heard it can be laggy and annoying to use, especially on FFT. And with a price so low I'm worried it might just be a bit crappy. On the plus side though it's low price gets me an SDG1032X for the same money as a 924S with some change leftover.
I've recently sold two older digital scopes because they were cumbersome, so a good user experience is a priority, potentially even over minor accuracy concessions. My budget is around $1,500 AUD (~$1,000 USD), but I'm happy to be talked into spending more if it makes sense :D
Could anyone with experience in these models or general scope advice guide me towards the best option for my needs?
Thanks in advance for your help!
p.s. I posted in general (to no replies) but this seems a better spot for the question, please advise if this is poor etiquette. I can't seem to delete my old post so I guess I'll just let it sink to the bottom of general.

Don't get DHO924.
MSO5000 is a bit noisy for delicate audio work.
If Bode plot is essential then Siglent's probably the way to go, if you can get hold of one.

Thanks for the advice. Sorry about the faux pas won't happen again. Also poorly worded the initial thread... Hopefully dies quietly

I forgot to mention that you can edit or modify your post at anytime to add or delete text, images, links and so on... Once your post is quoted though it virtually becomes the property of others so it always pays to do a proper proof read before posting, otherwise someone might quote your post before you have a chance to edit it. Also, I'm not a moderator here, just a dodgy member so best to read the rules.
In regards to the test equipment, I am also looking at new gear including an SDS804X HD, SDM3055 and either a SDG1032X or SDG2042X, undecided on the latter and there are some good threads around on comparisons of these models. I have recently noticed a few other local members pondering over similar acquisitions and wonder if some are just waiting for a better deal or certain models to go on special, which very rarely happens down here. I have other equipment so am not in any rush and need to feel like I'm getting a fair deal before handing over the cash, this practice becomes habitual with business.
