Digital Ocscilloscope under 300$ recommendation
« on: December 06, 2021, 07:31:37 am »
Good day to everyone. I am just an intermediate electronics enthusiast and just begun to venture the journey of car audio amplifier repairs a couple months ago. A lot of affordable digital oscilloscope are out there in the market today like Hantek, Owon, Fnirsi. Can you please recommend me an entry level one like 250$ to 300$ good enough that I can use as intermediate troubleshooter. Thanks a lot.

Have a look at this recent thread: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/living-overseas-want-to-buy-first-scope-limited-options-rigol-1102z-e/

Hantek DSO2x1x  (DSO2C10 is under $200)
Rigol DS1102Z-E or DS1054Z   ($350??)
Siglent SDS1104X-U   (just over $400)

You get what you pay for.  The more expensive ones are better but maybe the $180 Hantek DSO2C10 is good enough.

I'd stretch the budget a little bit and go for the Rigol DS1102Z-E

You get what you pay for.

Yep. Hantek's reputation is for low feature count, buggy firmware and constant lockups.

A quick google search will reveal the horrors: https://www.google.com/search?q=DSO2D10+bugs

Owon is similar, FNIRSI's specs are complete fiction. The Rigol is the cheapest 'scope that's really worth owning.

Get a Rigol, very reliable and feature rich and have your price range covered.

Hantek fixed the lockups.  Current firmware is much improved.   No amount of patching will fix the cost cutting needed to hit the < $200 price point.   See my short review in the linked thread.

If you are looking for a 100-150 MHz 'scope and only have $200 the Hantek is the best option.   If you have the budget, get the Rigol or Siglent.

They only give you one probe???  :wtf:

Yes, only one probe.   Which is why the $180 DSO2C10 really costs ~200.

That doesn't bother me.  The external trigger does.

Like I said earlier you get what you pay for.    Eventually I will get a Siglent SDS1104X-E.     The X-E is £454.80($600) with tax and shipping, double the OP's budget.

Another recent related thread.

As others have said, if you have the budget, Siglent or Rigol are the best options.
